Are you procrastinating and avoiding working on your business?
Co-working might be something that you should consider. Don’t just sit there wondering what to do! Start co-working.
The first time I heard of co-working was when I started my business however I never really experienced it. I thought it was a place where one goes to access fast internet and work on client work away from distractions. Little did I know!
The fact is that when you work from home it’s easy to get distracted with daily chores such as loading the washing machine, preparing dinner for the kids and so on.
Distractions are the number one reason for procrastination and not doing the work.
What is co-working?
Coworking spaces are shared workspaces often connected with a community approach. Coworkers work collaboratively in a physically shared space.
What are the benefits of a co-working space?
- Lack of household distractions;
- Increased productivity;
- Socialization with other like-minded individuals
- Networking opportunities;
- Flexible workspace and facilities (like free coffee and fast internet).
This is why co-working is so awesome! 5 Awesome Things You Can Learn From Co-working…
1. Word of advice, don’t just sit at your computer and stare at it not knowing where to start!
I urge you to do your research and find out places where you could start co-working. Look into possible places online or locally offline. Contact some of your connections and ask them where they normally go to co-work. Above all, this will really help with decreasing your procrastination state and enable you to achieve so much more in a few hours.
2. Some of you might actually need a physical space to work.
Maybe you are working on your dining table or you have your computer on your lap. It’s possible that you don’t have a sassy office space yet and therefore you want to be in a more professional space when you have your client calls. The environment where you work has a huge influence on how you perform your tasks. An untidy desk says a lot about your state of being. When you go to a shared office the last thing you want others to see is an untidy desk and so you keep it minimal because you know at the back of your mind that space is going to be taken by someone else after you.
3. Knowing that you are in a shared workspace with other like-minded people, gives you a boost on your productivity and performance.
Unconsciously your mind knows that you are being watched by others and so it keeps you away from anything else that you might be thinking about doing like the daily chores I talked about earlier. Your mind knows that the time that you’ve compromised to work on your task is exactly for that, to be focused on the task ahead and complete it (or nearly complete it).
Another factor that your mind also knows is that you are to competing with anybody in the workspace. You are just simply focused on what you need to do. This is very similar to the laser coaching sessions I facilitate with my group in Radical Launch System. We meet online where each member has a 15 min laser coaching “Hot Seat” session to express a specific concern, problem, opportunity or block they wish to address and resolve.
4. Online co-working spaces are freaking awesome.
Especially those that are organised in a way that you set your goal for your session and then give you enough time and space to just start working on what you intended to do. The leader of the co-working space will set the time and will check in with you at the end of the set time to know how you’re doing.
Doing it online has the advantage of not needing to travel to anywhere else but you need to be very disciplined with this and eliminate all distractions. I would suggest you communicate with other family members that you don’t want to be disturbed for the next couple of hours. Put your mobile phone on mute and come out of all social media platforms while you’re focusing on completing your task. Also, I would also have some beverages already prepared or some snacks if you think the co-working session is going to be a long one.
5. There is something truly empowering with verbally talking about what we are working on in our co-working session.
Firstly, it gives us a sense of peace to be able to finish our task without interruptions. Secondly a sense of accomplishment. I have recently attended an online co-working space and let me tell you honestly I’ve achieved more in 3 hours than what I set to do in one week. I was super focused on what I wanted to accomplish which was writing the sales page copy for my 5 Steps to 5k in 5 Days Intensive and I did it! If I sound surprised with myself is because I truly am. So now that I’ve experienced the power of co-working spaces, there is no holding me back. Therefore, I already have my next session booked up and pencilled in my calendar.
IT’S A WRAP
Either you do this offline or online you will soon start seeing levels of increased productivity. It will make you feel like you’ve accomplished a huge amount of tasks that otherwise you wouldn’t if you were working alone without support. Let me know in the comments if this is something that you are thinking about doing? If you’ve done it before I would love to know your feedback too.
