5 Reasons Why Meditation Doesn’t Have To Be Hardcore

Do you meditate?

Practising meditation has changed my health and my life! Just to think that 5 years ago I didn’t even know what meditation was.

I strongly believe that it should be something that t’s taught as a child. This habit needs to be instilled into us from an early age so that we allow our powerful minds to build a habit and when triggered by stressful events be able to control it.

Using meditation on a daily basis has helped me with my creative thinking, helped me relax from any stressful situations and help me focus my thoughts on what I want from life. However, in the beginning was hard until I found my meditation “mojo”!

Like I said I didn’t have a clue what meditation was, it’s benefits and how to actually do it. I was introduced to this concept when I started working with coaches. In the beginning, I resisted and to be completely honest I haven’t followed through. In other words, resistance was clouding my thoughts. My inner chatter was taking control of my mind and telling me to “just give up” doing it.

Yet, I persisted! I become aware of my thoughts and allow them to roam my mind until they were just whispers or complete silence. This is why I love listening to guided meditations. My breathing is guided and the words that are said transform into beautiful images in my mind. I can then start rewriting my own desires and intentions the way I want them to materialise.

In effect doing any sort of meditation doesn’t need to be hardcore or difficult.

Here are 5 reasons why meditation doesn’t have to be hardcore:

  1. You don’t need to stare at a white wall for hours on end! Start with shorter lengths of time, like 5/10 minutes in the morning and evening and start increasing the time every day. What is important is that you do it consistently. Every time I come off the meditation “wagon”, I feel 10 x more stressed than when I am doing it on a regular basis.
  2. Your inner chatter is already intense so why should you accumulate even more overwhelming thoughts. Choose a daily routine that fits with your schedule. There is no right or wrong when it comes to meditation. I often do it during the day when I feel I need to quiet my mind and focus on a specific intention or goal. Also when I have to give a presentation or live webinar, I always do the 2-3-5 Meditation sessions which I learned from my client Coach Vibha Sharma.
  3. Where should you do your meditations? No, you don’t need to seat in the lotus position in a zen room. Personally, I love to do my meditations in the morning in nature in a secluded place away from distractions. In the evening I love to listen to guided meditations in bed whilst lying down. I can feel all sorts of sensations while I am relaxing in bed. My preferred place is a quiet place on the beach. Feeling my toes sink into the sand, hearing the waves crashing and the sea breeze touching my face. It’s the perfect moment to quiet my mind and just be in the moment.
  4. There are many types of mindful meditation techniques. The thing is, you need to choose the one that feels comfortable to you. I allow this flexibility with my clients even though I also teach them how to meditate through art expression. I know others that do walking meditation, yoga meditation, mantra meditation, transcendental meditation, breath awareness meditation, art guided meditation amongst others. Try them out and stick with what works for you.
  5. After your meditation session, grab your journal and start writing describing what has come up during your session. Just simply write what you felt, what you were doing and how you interpreter it. Let your pen take over the lines of your journal or the brush strokes invade the blank pages of your art journal.

Every time I find an interesting meditation video on YouTube, I save it onto a playlist so that I can return to it later and listen to it.
I have a selection only for meditations which I go to all the time. It helps me to be consistent with my meditation routine and inspired by others. Besides, It’s a good idea to follow guided meditations so that your mind doesn’t wander and get distracted.
I’ve created a playlist on my YouTube Chanel and I’m inviting collaborators to add their suggestions. So with that said, I would love to have your recommendations. Every time you come across a fabulous meditation video please add it to the list or maybe you have a meditation of your own that you would like to include on the list.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve enjoyed the Meditation selection so far and what is your preferred meditation type?
